DIVA CELEBRATES SHEFFIELD’S 2009 WORLD AIDS DAY

World Aids Day Sheffield 2009

Next month celebrations will begin for Sheffield World AIDS day, with a line up of spectacular events across the city organised by diva.

Held on December 1st each year, World AIDS Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV. World AIDS Day is about generating money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education.

diva will be organising three major events to mark the occasion, with all proceeds going to three HIV charities with local, national and global connections. All three are events are being sponsored by diva as part of its commitment to encourage social change.

The exciting events on offer include Sheffield’s only Bachelor Auction, which is being held in the Platinum Suite at SUFC on Bramall Lane. The auction has been created by diva’s very own New York dating expert, Aimee Ward. Bidders will be treated to champagne, a meal, and a range of eligible bachelors.

For the younger generation, diva has created the Battle of the Bands. In a city that has produced artists such as Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley and the Artic Monkeys, there are high hopes for the young people who are entering. Contestants are being asked to write a song for a video created by diva. The video will be used as an educational resource on HIV and AIDS.

diva is also organising a gig that will take place at the O2 Academy on December 1st, with top artists from across the city. Winners of the Battle of the Bands will have their chance to perform the winning entry live at the O2.

To raise awareness of World AIDS Day and all the ways that people can get involved, diva has created a dedicated website. To find out more about the events: visit www.worldaidsdaysheffield.com.
