‘The People’s Movement’

Client: Consortium with membership from the Sheffield City Council, Hallam University, NHS Sheffield, Active Sheffield and private/commercial sector.

Brief: To make a significant contribution towards a sustained increase in levels of physical activity in Sheffield.

What we did: ‘The People’s Movement’ public engagement campaign focused on the idea of ‘active living’ i.e. It embraced physical activity done in a range of settings including – travel-related activity (walking and cycling), workplace activity, leisure-time activity (including sport, walking, dance etc) and home-based activity such as gardening, housework, ‘front room’ exercise etc.

Value: Over 10,000 hits to the website, with attached sub-sites also receiving a good response (e.g. 3,454 hits to the young person’s activity site) and also 100 local sporting organisations registered with the site.

Paul Billington of Active Sheffield said

Viva Salsa was a great triumph, members of the public joined in, got a great deal of enjoyment out of the event, whilst improving their physical health and all-round well-being.
