Students at The University of Sheffield have received a special masterclass from Diva – giving them an insight into the world of social marketing.
We delivered a guest lecture to the Department of Biomedical Science that explained how behaviour change theories can be put into practice.
The talk showcased our campaigns that raised awareness of health issues such as safe sex.
The humorous ’10 Ways A Condom Can’t Protect You’ video, produced for Sexual Health Sheffield, went viral after being featured by media outlets across the world and now has more than 620,000 views on YouTube.
Alasdair Jackson, Digital Services Team Manager at Diva Creative, said: “It was a pleasure to present our methods to the scientists of tomorrow.
“When used effectively, social marketing techniques can be used to change people’s behaviours and improve public health.
“As an example, our ‘Prevent Infection, Protect Everyone’ campaign led to a 38 per cent reduction in Clostridium difficile infections in Leeds hospitals – an incredible result.
“I am sure the students will be able to use some of the techniques mentioned in my talk together with their knowledge of biomedical science to achieve some fantastic health impacts.”
Dr Lauren Buck, Associate University Teacher and Deputy Level 1 Tutor at The University of Sheffield, said: “Guest lectures and workshops given by Diva enrich our students’ experiences and provide them with an understanding of how their subject knowledge can be applied to real-life scenarios.
“They are of great value and are always received very well by our students.”
